We are leaving for Prague on Friday, Sept. 27. Our itinerary is as follows: first night at Prague airport, next 4 nights in Old Town, 2 nights in Cesky Krumlov, 3 nights in Dresden, 4 nights in Berlin and the last night at Marriott (Prague airport). All travel will be done by either train or bus. This will be a new experience for us. Previously we have always rented a vehicle.

I am somewhat confused about the train station in Prague. Have read several times that the train from Prague to Dresden leaves from the Holesovice train station yet our prepaid tickets read the train leaves from Praha hl.n. Which station is it. Please advise.

We are travelling from CK to Prague and need to find our way from Na Knizeci to Praha hl.n. Does two hours allow enough time.

there are 2 major train stations in prague. suggest you check with a more detailed guide book - and your tickets

also, staying at the airport makes no sense - why not go directly to the center

Where did you read that the train left from Holesovice? According to bahn.de all Prague to Dresden trains leave from the main station.

If you take the train from CK to Prague you will be at the main station.

It might be either. Some trains stop at each station, some at only one. Check your train departure time on the German Rail site and look at "Show intermediate stops" for your train. I rode from Praha-Holesovice to Dresden several years ago on a train which had a final destination of Berlin.

As thursdaysd wrote, it does look today all the trains for Dresden leaves from Hlavni N. but with a stop at Holesovice. I do remember until several years ago many of those trains ( for Dresden/Berlin ) left from Holesovice without a stop at Hl.N. while HL.N. was under renovation work.

If your ticket says Hl.N., that must be it, but for your peace of mind, you can check your train's timetable yourself on above said railway site. You don't say which train you are taking.

I needed some time to figure out why above question. Are you arriving from CK to Prague by bus? I see there is a autobus terminal at Na Knížecí. That's near Andel metro station ( lines B + C for Hl.N.). 2 hours time is more than enough.

For trains originating in the Czech Republic, look at the Czech railway website: https://www.cd.cz/eshop/
If you input Praha for departure and Dresden Hbf (=Hauptbahnhof, meaning main central station in German), and your date (not too far into the future) and time, you get what you want, and it will tell you which station in Prague. (On the random date I picked, all Dresden trains leave from Praha hl.n.)
If you input Praha and Cesky Krumlov, again it’s Praha hl.n. that I see come up.
For trains originating within Germany, from Dresden to Berlin and from Berlin back to Prague, look at the German railway website www.bahn.de.

If your pre-paid ticket says the train leaves from the main station (that's Hlavni Nadrazi) then it leaves from there. There are ALSO trains to Dresden from Holesovice; some are direct and some timings require changes.

The bus station you are using is on Metro Line B. (the Andel station) The bus station is across the river and a little over 2 miles from Hlavni. You can take a taxi between the two if you prefer; if you do, agree with the cab driver on the approximate fare in advance.

Dukey1 gives good advice, Na Knizeci bus station is a very short walk from Andel metro. you could take the yellow line metro to Florenc ( direction Cerney Most)then change to the Red lines and go one stop to Hlavni ( Direction Haje). Should take no longer than 20 minutes.The metro stop at Hlavni is actually inside the train station.
If you are travelling light then use the metro if you have a bit of luggage then get a taxi,I doubt it should cost more than 300-400 kc.
The actual train station itself is now a very nice place ,used to be a real dump when I first started visiting Prague,lots of nice shops cafes and bars,there is even a decent Billa supermarket there,great for stocking up with stuff to eat and drink on your train journey.

What did the Czech Railways do a couple of years ago?

Build an extra line between Prague's main central Hlavni station and the Budapest-Bratislava-Holesovice-Dresden-Berlin line, removing a bottleneck and allowing trains on this corridor to come into Hlavni station and (I think) reverse, when until 2 years ago they by-passed Hlavni calling only at Holesovice.

Almost all trains now serve Prague's main and very central Hlavni station, most also calling at the less-central Holesovice either on their way in or out.

Dukey I read Adrinne's post so I'm not trying your link. Besides I'm not used to bahn.de site. I use most of the times sbb.ch (Swiss railway site) that serves me well for most European networks I need to look up. I have looked at the EC trains Prague - Dresden ( no change of trains to get to Dresden - As I think that's what OP has. ) from 06h00 till 18h00 departure Prague. All the trains originates at ( or come from elsewhere, Brno, Budapet, etc) hl.n. and makes a stop at Holesovice. So I'm curious what bahn.de site gives.

Spaarne, I did my research on Swiss railway site and I posted the result above. If you are a bahn.de user, I let you do that part. Find me a (direct) train that leaves Holesovice but without a stop at hl.n.

Besides the question of which station the Dresden trains leave from (which I consider settled), there is the issue of train or bus from CK to Prague. The train requires a change at Ceske Budejovice, but delivers you to the right place in Prague. The bus requires a transfer by taxi or metro in Prague. I would take the train, but then I find trains more comfortable than buses in the first place.

Why wouldn't you believe your ticket? Go where it says, that would be best.
