Prague Taxis

I've done the obligatory search but didn't find the info I need either here or on the internet. About how much would a taxi cost in Prague to go from the main train station to the outskirts near the castle. I think it's the 6th district in Prague. I'm debating whether to book Mike's Chauffeur Service or wing it with a cab. I could take public transport but would rather avoid the hassle of luggage on a city bus/tram.

Thanks!

make arrangements with a taxi service in advance to meet you, it will be cheaper that a chauffeur servce. Check the forums or simply Google 'taxi in Prague', starting with the airport.
You an e-mail many of them or call direct.
Besides an obvious possibility to get a crooked driver, there could be no taxi avalable at the railroad station.

There usually are taxis at the main station, but if you don't speak Czech, expect to pay double or triple. Our first trip, we just caught a cab at the station - it was the equivalent of € 20 (and that was after we turned down the €30 guy) to our hotel. Second trip (same hotel, but we pre-booked a cab), it was €11.

The mini van service is about $20 (380 CZK). The hotel is 8 tram stops from the Charles Bridge (toward the castle). The address is: Nad Hradnim vodojemem 83, 162 00 Praha 6 -
Stresovice.

I have just emailed my hotel asking how much a taxi should cost and if it is possible to pre-book. Since it is late in Prague I might not hear back until tomorrow.

The last time I was in Prague (many years ago) I got a cab at the station. We asked the price ($8) and since it seemed OK we took the cab. It was probably too much to pay at the time but it seemed cheap to us.

In my OP I stated the main train station but I remembered that I'm taking a bus into Prague so I'll be at the main bus station. I don't think they are far apart.

I heard back from the hotel. They advised getting a taxi at the station and said the price should be about $26 (500 CZK). Mike's service is a much better deal.

I booked Mike's service and couldn't be happier. He was waiting at the bus depot with my name on a card. He stopped so I could get some cash from an ATM which only dispensed 1,000 notes so Mike went into the bank for me to get a couple of the 1,000 notes changed into something smaller. We chatted about the changes in Prague during the drive to my pension which is in the same area he grew up in.

I would definitely recommend Mike's Chauffeur Service to anyone looking for transport in Prague.
