Pompei vs. Herculaneum?

I only have time to visit one. Does anyone have and opinion on which one is more interesting?

And I looked at the post to see the score of the game. Who won? Did Berkovic score?
Anyway, IMO - Pompeii isn't the more famous by accident.

Pompeii is a complete walled city, sort-of a mini-Rome.
Herculaneum is a small section of a small city, that's been nicely reconstructed.
You can spend all day in Pompeii. Their audioguide tour has 2, 4, and 6hr itineraries.
You can do Herculaneum's audioguide tour in 2hrs and basically see everything. Also some areas been closed-off, making it even smaller.
Regards, Walter

Will you be traveling alone?
How will you be getting there?

We chose Herculaneum, for two reasons .
AS we were driving a car and did not want to spend too much time driving back and forth from Formia and becasue we had two children we felt closer and smaller would work for us.
While I am sure Pompheii would have blown my socks off, all of us were
been more interesting, all of us were pleased with our decision.

I would recommend hiring a guide whichever you do.

Have fun!!

We did both from Sorrento taking the train on two different days.

I had heard that Herculaneum (Ercolano on the train stop, I believe), was better preserved. But Pompeii was more impressive to me...maybe because we did it first, so it "ruined" the other for us. (Sorry, couldn't resist the awful pun!) Pompeii was pretty big, and just by the the large size, I felt it was easy to get "lost" in it and imagine what it was like in those days. It was neat.

So my vote goes to Pompeii.
