Please hEkpNice, here now and need a translation of bus notation please

Hi all. We're here in Nice (yay!) and planning to go to St Paul de Vence tomorrow morning. I'm looking at the Lignes d 'Azur website for the number 400, and on one of the times I see the note, "Itineraires par la Penetrante". What does that mean? Does it take a different route?

Also, any idea of the fare? The buses we've taken in town have been 1€50, but I'm assuming this one will be significantly more. Will we be able to pay the driver in exact change?

I'll write a TA when we get back. It's a wonderful time to come here. The weather has been good, not much rain and crisp temperatures.

Thank you!

one of the translations given by google for penetrante is 'expressway" - does that make any sense?

it would help if you posted the link!

Hi Sorry I can not help you with the translation.
It almost sounds to me as if the translation is " itineries for the destinations ".
Perhaps the hotel or the travel bureau can give you the translation.
The buses are great and very cheap and the fare is always 1.50 euros
I prefer using the bus while in Nice rather than the trains, cheaper and scenery is great

There is a very nice boat ride at the dock that goes around some of the coast line, beautiful to see it from the water.

Have a great time in one of my favorite vacation places.

That's a local definition, the bus map itself shows you the routes and that certain times of day the passage is by what they label "penetrante" which is a different different route and they don't make some stops. this is the document in question

http://www.lignesdazur.com/ftp/lignes_FR/400.pdf

this is the notation <<Aux heures de passage par la Pénétrante à la Colle-sur-Loup, les arrêts suivants ne sont pas desservis : Arnoux, Montfort, Campons, Pas de Sénes, Caillades, Espéres, Hameaux du Soleil>>

The tarif is the same as in city, I believe, for route 400. The tarif is the same on most of the network except there is a special fare for the airport.

It looks from what I can see online (I cannot get the map on one to open, it's flash and my iPad doesn't get it) that there's a transfer of bus companies from Lignes d'Azur to Envibus. Does this make any sense? Do I transfer from one to another in Cagnes-sur-Mer? It seems to me that once I read something about that.

Thanks!

Christina, I think you're right. I see on the Envibus website that some of the stops might be extra.

A "pénetrante" is a major thoroughfare connecting the suburbs to the center of a city. As opposed to "rocade" which avoids the center.

Ok for future reference, on the bus that said Penetrante I think we took the D426, not the D 6, which was faster. No change of bus - went straight through to Vence. Cost 1€50. Took about an hour.
