Paris CDG departure: VAT Refund question
I know how it works at Rome FCO and have researched CDG details on the internet but I still have some questions:
1. If I am willing to carry the "rebate" items as carry on, do I have the option of checking in FIRST for my AF flight (Paris- Montreal) THEN standing in line to have my papers stamped?
2. Does anyone know where I find the Customs office/ desk in Terminal 2E??? Is there one AFTER security, as at FCO, or is the only desk BEFORE security?
3. In YOUR case, how long did the Customs line-up take?
Thanks for your advice......We leave Sunday, our time is tight that morning...
....And as I got a bit naughty at the Prada and Gucci and Armani outlets in Tuscany, a lot of rebate-cash hinges on getting this right.

You can do it either before of after checking in but you have to pass up the check in line to get there and double back to check in.
It's before security. If they haven't moved it, it's to the right of the check in lines.
The last time I had stuff to claim a refund for the line was so long that I just said forget it and skipped it.
The time before that, I went there before I checked in and there were only 2 people in front of me. Both of whom argued with the guy over not having the goods on hand to inspect. They had already checked them in their luggage. He didn't even ask to see mine, but I opened my bag anyway to show it to him. He just stamped the thing and waved me on.
More often then not, they don't ask to see it but if you don't have it, no stamp. You're more likely to get asked if it's a lot of money.

Keep in mind that each terminal has it's own VAT refund counter. I did the VAT refund at CDG last summer in Terminal E and from what I remember you can only do this before check in. I flew back to the US on air france, the VAT counter was to the left of the escalator.
