thanks for posting - hopefully the slow down of night train personnel in Italy that has often made Artesia night trains trains from Hell, as per several recent posts, will be solved after the start of winter schedules.
And as always first class is well worth the money - even on new rolling stock, if that is the case here!

4-person couchettes are usually considered first class at least with a railpass and 6-person 2nd class. On Artesia trains you need a first class pass to use a 4-person couchette or on up and only 2nd class for a 6-person couchette. But yes otherwise there are many classes - private compartments highest class, six-person couchette, on this train 2nd class.
In other countries it is common for couchettes to be called first class and second class, according to number of beds and extras like showers in some.

does anyone know if this train can be booked through Rail Europe Site using their passes?
We are going there during New Year. it would be extremely helpful if we take night train instead wasting a whole day on the way from Italy to Paris =[

"4-person couchettes are usually considered first class"
No, the French reservation system unfortunately HAS to (incorrectly) classify 4-berth couchettes as first class due to technical shortcomings. The Italian reservation system did and does classify exactly the same 4-berths on the same train (correctly) as 2nd class. The problem stems from France having 4-berth 1st class couchettes which are better decor-wise than 2nd class 6-berth, but here we're talking exactly the same compartments, just with 4 people rather than 2 people in.
Indeed, I agree that 'class' is now an unnecessary and often misleading term in relation to night trains, especially as 2-bed sleepers require a 1st class ticket on some routes and a 2nd class ticket on others, for exactly the same type of compartment.
I gather from 'informed sources' that the new Thello service will NOT accept Eurail or Interail passes at all, you'll have to buy a regular ticket, although I've asked them to confirm this directly. But with a couchette for only 35 euros, that's only 15 euros more than the railpass supplement, with easy online no-fees bookings, and no need to buy a railpass.
Oh, and please don't add to the confusion.
Couchette = padded bunk, 4 or 6 per compartment.
Sleeper = proper bed with washbasin, 1 2 or 3 per compartment.
No such thing as a 2-bed couchette, I think you mean sleeper! But yes, the Thello train has 1 2 and 3 bed sleepers, plus 4 and 6 bunk couchettes.
Book at www.thello.com or www.trenitalia.com, it cannot currebntly be booked through any Rail Europe or SNCF French Railways-based system.

Oh, and although it will be academic from 11 December, on the current Artesia services ANY class of railpass can be used to travel in ANY type of couchette or sleeper if you pay the passholder fare for that type of accommodation.
So with a 2nd class railpass, you are entitled to pay the passholder fare for a 4-berth couchette or even a for 2-bed sleeper if you like. It makes no difference what class of railpass you hold, the passholder fare is the same for each type of accommodation and you can choose any type. And that's straight from the sales manual!

Prefer day training and nice hotels to sleepers these days.
See more sleep better less "train" lag the next day...
ryanair.com easyjet.com flights usually quickest best for
me just booked 2 of those on skyscanner.net less than 29 euro
Way cheap and faster than train booked in advance..
Day Train way more scenic though night train not so much.
