Need help identifying the name of a church near Catherine's Palace
This summer, I was on a river cruise.
Right before we arrived at Catherine's Palace, our guide quickly pointed out a church which very much looked like St. Basil's Cathedral (though a smaller version). I only got a quick glimpse of the church and never heard the name. I was hoping to see it when we drove away but we drove out a different direction. It was within minutes of arriving at Catherine's Palace.
Does anyone know the name of the church that I am describing? Thanks!

Thanks Robespierre, but that's not the one I was thinking of, but perhaps it may be the one Theresa has in mind. The one I'm thinking of really was an ornate looking church from the outside.
I was searching for a picture last night that I might have taken, but alas, cannot find one.

No - that isn't the one.
I only got a 2 second glimpse but it definitely looked very similar to St. Basil's Cathedral or Church of our Savior on Spilled Blood. Our guide even commented that it was modeled after St. Basil's.
mcnyc - at least I know I am not crazy, you saw it also!
Robespierre - thanks for trying

LOL Theresa...thanks for proving I'm not nuts. Yet. I know we asked, but our guide mumbled the name, and no one caught it.
Perhaps someone out there knows the answer to our question...because my searches on Google have turned up nothing.

Anna - I think that is it! I am going to do some more google searches now that I know the name and try to find a better picture..
Through all this, the frustrating part is that I seem to have missed the beautiful church that was near Peterhof that several of you referred to!
This was my 2nd time to Russia. I went when I was 18 in 1988 and then again this summer (on a river cruise). I LOVE Russia (the people, the architecture, the history) and can't wait to go again but this time on a land trip. I felt so restrictive on the river cruise. I like to wander and not follow a schedule.
Again, thanks for everyone's help!

Theresa,
I was in Russia on a river cruise in May and saw the same church that you are referring to...I asked the tour guide if we could stop and have a look but no luck....I am anxious to return to Russia but next time on my own or at least a more flexible land tour.....the river cruise was nice but I felt like I didn't have enough time at several of the stops.
