Must sees near Aix-en-Provence

We will be staying in Aix-en-Provence for a week. What are the must see's (day trips)outside of this ciy? We will be in Avignon for a week also, so we don't want to venture too far in that direction during the first week.

Thanks for any suggestions. This is a wonderful forum, which we've been trolling for months.

Last year I was in Aix en Provence in November and we took a day trip down to the coast to see cassis - a tiny beautiful port which was amazing! Also you are not too far from Marseille. The drive down and back took awhile but it was worth it to have lunch in this cute place (cassis)

I second Cassis, and also suggest you take a boat from there along the coast to see the beautiful calanques (rocky cliffs and formations).
There are many villages near by to visit including Bonneiux, Gordes, Rousillon, and others.
If you're really ambitious, hike up Mount Victoire outside of town -- it's quite a climb but very rewarding at the top.

You can arrange a tour of Cezanne's atelier from the tourist office. Very nice.

Cassis is excellent. As to the boat ride through the Calanques try to go when the weather is pleasant, calm and not much wind. Can be a rocky ride, translated you can get wet. We did.

What kind (how big) of boats do they use? Motorboats? Sailboats?

Les Baux, a tiny medieval village perched on a mountain top, is interesting and easily reached.

Take a drive up to Moustiers-ste-Marie and have lunch at les Santons. This is an extremely charming town known for its faience.

Cassis is a good choice and it has a better feel to it than St.Tropezz.
