Provence - did I make a mistake being based in Seguret?
I reserved a rental for a week in early June to explore Provence from Seguret, but am wondering if I should be based somewhere a bit more south.... I'd like to visit that area, but also Cassis and Aix - are they too far for day trips? Thanks in advance!

Choosing the base is tough work. I visit Provence often and it's always a struggle.
If you haven't seen much of the region you'll find it easy to try to cover too much ground...there's a lot to experience there. If you're planning on just one base for your time there, somewhere an hour south is certainly more central (around Avignon). I do love the Vaison area, though.
I don't know that I would drive 2 hours to see Cassis unless your looking for a good beach scene or a boat ride, but it is certainly possible. Besides, you'll likely spend a lot of your time in the car, so if it's on your wish-list, it's <i>your holiday.

I LOVED Seguret! It is such a lovely little village. We were based in Pernes les Fontaines which is south of Seguret. We did a day trip up through Sablet, Seguret, Gigondas, and on to Vaison la Romaine for the market. We stopped in Seguret and Gigondas on the way "home" (great winetasting!). That "route" has gorgeous views across many vineyards and the Dentelles are always within view. Vacqueyras (sp?), Orange, and Chateauneuf du Pape are fairly close to Seguret.
We found Pernes les Fontaines to be very central to where we wanted to visit. Bonnieux, Gordes, Roussillon (gorgeous!!), Menerbes, Coustellet, St. Remy, Pont due Gard, Avignon, L'Isle sur la Sorgue, and Maubec were places we visited during the 8 days we were there. One day we drove to Cassis and did a boat trip along the calanques. That was a highlight! However, that was our longest driving day. We wanted to stop in Aix for a walk through their market but apparently missed the exit and wound up driving to Cassis from Marseilles.
I must say that if you want the flavor of Provence, perhaps a little bit larger town/village might be more fun ... something with more than two restaurants. It would be fun to walk around at night, stop at a cafe for a glass of wine, and just enjoy your surroundings.
I would be happy to answer any questions.
Enjoy!
