Munich - Apartment for one week

My husband and I are planning a 2 week trip this Fall. We thought we would first go the Prague for 4-5 days and take day trips (is this too long in this area?). From here head to Salzburg for a night and then our final week rent an apartment in Munich using this as a base for days trips. Can anyone tell me if this makes sense? Are there enough interesting places to drive to in addition to seeing Munich? Or is a week in Munich too long or not a convenient base camp? Any help is very appreciated!! Thanks a lot!!

4 or 5 days in Prague including day trips is not too long at all.

The one issue with the next leg of your trip is that Salzburg is not really on the way from Prague to Munich. What you might do instead is base yourself in Munich (as you plan to do) and visit Salzburg from there. It's only 1.5 hrs by train, so it could make a fine day trip.

There's plenty to do in Munich and it also makes a convenient base to many of the attractions in southern Bavaria. A week in Munich sounds great. I would not suggest renting a car for a stay in Munich due to the parking issues and city driving, although it's true that a car is convenient for touring some of the areas in the Bavarian Alps and Austria to the south.

Woyzeck - thank you so much for the information! I have read a lot from people who have stayed in Munich for a few days, but I wasn't sure about a week. We like to stay in an apartment and get to know an area. Your information is very helpful! Thank you!

If you're in Munich for a week, that puts you within striking distance of several interesting places should you grow tired of Munich.

I would take at least an overnight to Salzburg, it is a lovely town with lots of interesting things to do, great food and good shopping. And you can't beat the views!

Thanks a lot everyone. It sounds like Munich would be a good base for exploring "after Munich". Thank you for your input!
