Madrid, Segovia, Avilla and Salamanca
We are renting a car in Madrid and driving to Segovia...on to Avilla...and on to Salamanca where we are staying a couple of nights! Would appreciate any advice regarding eats, what to see and safe and secure parking...hopefully not getting our bags and luggage ripped off while walking the sites! Thnx in advance!

You should find some decent recommendations on where to dine and what to see in Maribel's Guide to Segovia (http://maribelsguides.com).
As far as not getting your luggage ripped off while out touring, make sure the car you are renting actually has a trunk and is not one of the new models without much luggage area, or is too small. You can also try parking in a parking garage and not on the street or in a open parking lot.

Buy a Spanish newspaper and leave it out on the seat with the name showing.
A delusional piece of advice, in my opinion.
Any thief worth his salt will know what is and what is not a local car.
If Spanish license plates are similar to French ones, rental cars will tend to come from one area identifiable by the code on the license plate.
Europcar often has a sticker on the car, indicating that it is a rental.
If in a garage, parking with the car backed up against a wall will make access to the trunk more difficult.

and it would not hurt to see what a guidebook like Fodor's might suggest.
