spain travel with a car

We're visiting Burgos, barcelona, zaragoza and madrid in April and will have a hire car. I haven't seen many hotel with parking and found a website showing public parking. It's a bit of a hassle to jump between the parking and hotel sites to find hotels near somewhere to keep the rental safe. anyone know a site that brings this together or do you know of a hotel chain with parking in these cities?

Posts: 17,190 should indicate whether parking is available at the hotels you are considering, and I believe you can use that as a screening criterion.

Stevepmi are you sure you need a car in Barcelona and Madrid? We usually plan to pick up a car when we leave a city and return it when we arrive at our last city destination. Not much fun driving in the big cities and not necessary either.

Same remark. You have fast trains between these cities.
In the cities a car is more a liability.

A rental car will give you freedom to explore regions and small towns outside the big cities. Also, you will have many scenic drives. If you have a car, you might even consider staying in hotels in the countryside (they usually have free parking). Within the city centers, many hotels do not have parking at all. You have to park your car in a parking garage and be aware that these garages are often quite expensive and difficult to navigate.

I understand, you will do a loop drive Madrid - Burgos - Logrono - Zaragossa - Barcelona - Madrid.

If this is right, the logical thing would be renting a car the day you are leaving Madrid and returning it when arriving in Barcelona. From Barcelona to Madrid, you can take the train. Within Barcelona and Madrid, a car would be a hindrance (unless for daytrips into the surrounding region, but, as said, it may be wise to stay in the countryside).

There are several websites that can provide you with parking information, including (, which shows you real time parking information, but in your case, you may want to contact your hotel(s) to ask where you can park. It shouldn't be a problem.

Parking in Burgos and Zaragoza shouldn't be an issue. For parking in Madrid, see: (there's also an app for that)

Parking is usually an extra cost for city hotels. You will normally use public car parks which are are normally covered with CCTV
They can offer some discounts in the public car parks they work with.

Parking in Barcelona is nightmare.
it's impossible to find FREE parking spot Monday- Friday for 24 hours. you may try to park your car in some "free spots" in the city outskirts but this may be not actually safe for your car.
Good tip, thank me later: parking in Barcelona is free from 8pm Friday to 7 am Monday (in "blue" and yellow I think spots), so maybe you could consider that...
Anyway, If money is not a isse, you are free to leave your car in one of many underground parkings... They usually charge 30 euros/ 24 hours... I paid less for a hotel over there, LOL....
