Madrid: Flamenco
Interested in watching a performance. Found these two places so far: Essential Flamenco and Cardamomo Tablao. Welcome info on these and other places.
Also interested in bars / pubs / lounges with live Spanish guitar music.

I have gone to Casa Patas on both my trips to Madrid. Excellent performances in an intimate setting. The food in the attached restaurant was quite good, and if you eat there, they show you to seats up front.

Cardamomo and Casa Patas are both excellent (as are several other Places in Madrid, Corral de la Moreria, Las Carboneras etc.). Casa Patas has conosistently been the best tablao in the country in recent years, but during the last months up and cpoming Paloma Fantova has performed much at Cardamomo. She would have deserved it! Given the Spanish tradition of mixing ages in almost all social settings, it's very common to see kids in Andalucia that has picked up astonishing flamenco dancing skills at a very young age. Has been like this for ages, and even though you also find the very uncharming display of all kinds of "wonderkids" on Spanish tv today, this girl's singing and dancing is a quite normal expression of the Spanish way to socialize.
The malagueña Rocio Molina took it further. She was so dead searious about dancing flamenco from before school-age that her parents were worried about her. Here at 11 in 1996, and today the most cutting edge flamenco dancer on the planet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fHU3gtl3Ew
And now back to the OP: If you post again some 3-4 weeks before you go, I can give advice based on the scehduled artists in the different venues.

Kimhe you noted a great difference between Spanish culture and others, the presence of children in places that are usually thought of as adult settings. Many tapas bars, especially in smaller cities and towns, are as much a place for a social gathering of families and friends of different ages as it is a place for food and wine.

Sala Juglar has a more intimate flamenco show on Sundays at 9:30pm that is less pricey and offers a great group of dancers and musicians for just 15 euros. they have a website www.flamencoenmadrid.es
