Luna Simone Hotel in London
Hi, The Luna Simone Hotel in Westminster has a room with shared bath available for 35 GBP/night. It seems to come highly recommeded. I will be traveling alone. Will the walk from Victoria Station be safe at night? Is it generally a safe area for a women traveling solo? Also, how are the facilities if you are sharing? I'm also waiting to hear back from the Crescent Hotel in Bloomsbury. Same questions. Thanks.

I've stayed at the Luna&Simone a couple of times - it's about what you should expect from a 35GBP hotel in central London. Clean enough, but old and cramped. The floorplan is vertical, so there's a good chance the shared facilities will be up or down a couple flights of stairs.

The L&S is a long 5 minute walk from Victoria, probably a bit closer to the Pimlico tube stop actually. Belgrave Road is a pretty busy thoroughfare, mostly lined with guest houses & tourist hotels. I'm not sure what that implies about the safety of the area - the vehicle and pedestrain traffic might deter petty criminals. On the other hand, it is an area which caters to tourists, and I suspect that Victoria station draws it's share of ne'er-do-wells.

Wish I could give you a better answer. Bottom line is that I go back to the L&S when in London because it's not a total dump, is about as cheap as I've found, and being near Victoria Station is a big convenience for me. I'm a 275lb 32yo male, so safety isn't such a big issue for me.

I found the Marne Hotel on 34 Belgrave Road at Smoothhound.com. The price of a tripe ensuite is 55 pounds per nite. The price is right and it is close to Victoria Station. You might want to check them out. Talked to gentleman who stayed there last year and said it was clean. We are only there for 2 nites. so should be ok. Price included full breakfast.
Vicki
