Looking for a room in the Luberon area

Well, I thought I had my trip nicely planned out for next April/May, but.... Mas de la Beaume in Gordes is already booked. I had a bad feeling when I saw they were pictured in a recent book. I have an e-mail off to Ferme de la Huppe to check availability. Has anyone stayed in Le Mas des Herbes Blanches? I don't think I've seen it mentioned here. It's a bit pricier, but it sounds like I'm looking at a holiday weekend. Also, any recommendations around Menerbes or Gordes that are slightly less than Bastide Marie?

there's a maison d'hote in gordes called Au Relenti du Lierre. And Les Bories on the rte de Abbaye-de-Senneque,
In Lagnes, we stayed at the Mas de Gres,
in Saignon, The Auberge du Presbytyre,
Bonnieux has several good places, if it interests you, as does Lourmarin.

Thanks. I will be printing out replies. I was just looking at Bonnieux on the map as Bastide de Capalongue looked interesting. What I'm trying to do is pick a place for 2 nights between our booked room in St. Remy and planned for room in Moustiers. From my books it looks like there are some possibilities. I just panicked when I realized the French are booking already for their long holiday weekend.

The Marie is very special, expensive yes, but worth it. Meals are included and I have never seen a breakfast like that anywhere, Fresh juices and refills all different, same for cereals, and other foods. I'd love to go back one day.

TO hopingtotravel:

The Bastide de Capelongue is a very good hotel. Nice decor, lovely views of Bonnieux beyond the grounds and the pool. Good restaurant. The rooms are small, except one with handicapped access which I believe is called Simione.

The hotel is very well located for touring the area, since roads head off from Bonnieux in four directions.
One of the best resturants in the area is about 20 minutes away...La Feniere, just past Lourmarin on the road to Cadanet.

In Moustiers, make a lunch reservation at Les Santons.

Bonnieux is a perfect base for exploring the Luberon. We had a wonderful stay at a B&B there called Le Clos du Buis.

See: http://www.luberon-news.com/le-clos-du-buis/index2.html

or for some of our personal photos of our visit, start here:

If you do stay there, you should book far enough ahead to get a room with a view out over the valley (as you can see in our photos).

nonnafelice, enjoyed your fotos!
Doesn't the Clos also give cooking lessons?
Bonnieux is a favorite village I make a day trip to every year.

Thanks. Am keeping all your suggestions. Server wouldn't let me post this morning. I also have an availability query in to Les Romarins in Gordes. Someone on this board liked their stay there. Ferme de la Huppe had rooms (as of yesterday). In St. Remy I'm booked at Chateau des Alpilles so am looking for sort of a middle of the road type price for these two nights. I had picked Gordes as want to see Senanque before cutting over to Moustiers.

We liked La Ferme de la Huppe very much--both the inn and the restaurant. Both are good values for the quality you get.

Underhill, that's very encouraging. I may e-mail them back as haven't heard from the other place. There is also one called 'Le Mas des Herbes Blanches' -- are you familiar with it? It looks like it may be farther north however.

Le Mas des Herbes Blanches is more expensive and up-market.

I should have noted that the friends to whom we recommended La Ferme de la Huppe liked it very much and are planning to return.

Re: (from cigalechanta): "enjoyed your fotos!

Thanks! I don't recall the option for cooking lessons when we were there (not that we would have had the time, anyway), but the host, Pierre, is an excellent cook, so maybe he does offer that.

The Clos du Buis used to be a bakery, by the way. We liked the location on the edge of the village, as it was quiet and charming, but not isolated -- a great place for walking.
