London to Dubrovnik

We have 4 days between London and reservations in Dubrovnik, and are looking for an interesting route to take or place to go. Any ideas would be welcome!

Hi FRED, what do you like to do? Interesting is a big option and depends on the individual. Me I might train it to lake constance, roller blade round it and then train down to D. Others might fly to Barcelona see the sites and fly over.

Might be worth looking at skyscanner and see where all the cheepo airlines go to

Vienna. Budapest. Venice. Trieste. Ljubljana. Split. I could go on...

Look here for one interesting train route:

Thanks for your input about our options. We haven't traveled extensively in Europe by train so that is intriguing alternative to flying. What about ferries from Italy? Haven't been to Venice in decades, though have traveled in the rest of Italy. What about Trieste? Have never been there. We are very appreciative of your input-thanks!

I haven't been to Trieste either, but after reading Jan Morris' take on it I put it on the list. Others are all places I've been and liked.

I get bored on boats so am not up on the ferry, but would start looking here:

In only 4 days, you can do almost nothing. It's just enoough for a combined bus - train ride up to London. You may also take a ferry from Dubrovnik to Bari and visit one place in Italy, may be just Matera, Castellana, Alberobello, Lecce, Gargano Peninsula and then fly to London.
Low cost flights Split - Venice: http://www.volotea.com/en
low cost flights from Dubrovnik to many European towns (among them Rome, Milan, Switzerland, in high season.

Will you be using public transport only?
