London for a spot of tea...

Only in London for 3 nights (second trip).

We arrive (Thursday) mid day so just plan on walking around a bit, hitting a pub for a pint/dinner, taking Ambien and going to bed!
Friday: First thing, going to the Tower to see the crown jewels; Evensong at Westminster Abby.
Saturday: open (walk around, Fortnum & Mason, Piccadilly Circus at night,
Sunday leaving by train to visit our friends in Wales

Questions and would love input:
1. Where is the best/most fun/ delicious place to go for high tea?
2. If evensong is at 5:00, I know we need to be there around 4:30ish. Wanted to do the Verger tour again because it was GREAT when we took it years ago. What time should I book that tour?
3. Ideas for our "open" Saturday???
4. Pub or fun "local" dinner ideas? (Staying in Marylebone...but happy to ride the Tube anywhere)

Harrod's is famous for its Afternoon and High Teas served in an ornate Tea Room.

Two good places for afternoon tea (which is probably what you're after): Brown's Hotel and The Ritz. The Dorchester is also nice, and would suffice.

more convenient for your route between the tower and Westminster would be the Savoy - after the tower, hop on a no 11 bus which will take you past St. Paul's, down Ludgate Hill, along Fleet Street and the Strand, where on your left you will see the Savoy hotel and theatre.

hop back on the bus to get to Westminster via Trafalgar Square and Whitehall.

you even get a view of those now infamous gates at the end of Downing Street.

If you're going to Fortnum's, you can do tea there - though it may not be as formal as one of the big hotels.

I'd do it at Fotnum & Mason since you'll be there anyway. Or at the Wolseley which is just up the road.

Fortnum's tea is quite nice. They also have an excellent ice cream bar.

A few years ago we had afternoon tea at Kensington Palace, in the Orangery. It was great! You could combine a tour of the Palace and afternoon tea.
