locanda dell Amorosa Tuscany - too isolated?

This place looks wonderful & we also plan on spending 3 nights in the Chianti area to explore, so that said, is this hotel too far for day trips to Montalcino, Pienza & such? Are there any towns close by for other restaurants than the hotels? Thanks for you help!

Locanda is one of our favorite places to stay in Italy..we have been several times..it is really lovely, and though you could do it, we wouldn't use it to explore the Val D'Orcia on day trips..we would want to be closer to the towns you mention...

On our first trip to Tuscany, we (2 couples) stayed at Locanda dell Amorosa and used our rental car to day trip to the following: Montapulciano, Pienza, Sant'Antimo Abbey, winery (Barbi). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. It was an unbelievable property and ranks up with one of my favorite places we've ever stayed. That said, on our second trip we stayed (husband & myself) at La Saracina located halfway between Montapulciano & Pienza. While La Saracina is more convenient to these towns, the property of Locanda dell Amorosa is so beautiful we didn't feel inconvenienced. Perhaps that was because when we drove places from there we enjoyed car time visiting with each other. We're returning with another couple this May and staying at La Saracina. I know this doesn't really answer your question - it probably muddles it a bit for which I apologize. When we stayed at Locanda, we ate at La Grotta for dinner one night (by Montapulciano), at Locanda itself one night, and a simple pizza dinner one night in Sinalunga. From La Saracina, we had more restaurant choices in the evening from which to choose...

Well we are confirmed for the Special Suite for 3 nights in Sept for Locanda dell'Amorosa! I am excited. Can you tell me what type of drive it is from Montapulciano back to Amorosa after dinner, in the dark? Thanks!

PeggyE - you'll love it! I'm afraid I can't really remember details about driving back (my husband or brother handled the driving duties) after dinner. We were visiting and enjoying the evening so the drive must not have been eventful. Our first night there, we were really tired so the kind people at Locanda recommended a simple, local place in Sinalunga as we weren't that hungry & didn't want to make a big evening out of it. The second night is when we ate at La Grotta (Locanda made reservations & gave directions). It was delicious. They brought out champagne upon being seated. The third night, we ate at Locanda and it, too, was wonderful. Each afternoon, we enjoyed being served wine & cheese selections at Locanda (complimentary, I believe). The breakfast was over-the-top. One day we wanted to tour a winery - they recommended Barbi, made reservations and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They have a beautiful chapel. The well in the center courtyard was filled with flowers. My husband & I had our picture taken there (as well as on the steps) - one of my favorite photos of us ever. Obviously, I could go on and on...
