Ljubljana hotel decision

We plan to spend 3 nights in Ljubljana in August 2005. Which of these hotel choices would you recommend: (1) Hotel Lev, (2) Grand Hotel Union--Executive wing, or (3) Grand Hotel Union--Business wing.

Thanks.

All three are good choices. The Grand Union--Executive wing (I think that is the older one) is more charming on the outside, but the business wing had nicer rooms (when we stayed there). All amenities are shared. It is a draw between those two and they are connected. Hotel Lev is a beautiful hotel but it is not as well located. It is on a busy intersection and you will have a 5 minute walk to get to the best of Ljubljana. That is not a big deal, but for location, I would prefer the Grand. Another 4 star option is the Hotel Slon which is also well located but on a busy street. It is a little socialist on the outside but I have heard some good reports.
Cheers,
Jan

We just returned from a trip in which we spent two nights at the Hotel Slon. As SloJan mentioned, it is on a busy street but it has double windows which eliminated any noise problems. We would happily stay there again.

We stayed at the Grand Union and labored over several emails back and forth deciding which of the two wings to stay in. Once there we checked out both wings and decided there really was little or no difference. In fact, guess what? Now I don't even know which wing we stayed in.
By the way, the breakfast buffet was almost like a grand Sunday brunch buffet in many US fine hotels.

Picking the best hotel isn't the challenge. From what I've seen, finding one with available rooms is the real challenge.
My wife and I wanted to spend 3 nights in Ljubljana at the end of May --over five months away -- and we can't find one room downtown in any of the hotels you mentioned. The only room we could find was at the Domina Grand Media Hotel & Casino several miles out of the city center. We really wanted to stay in the heart of the city, but it doesn't look like that will be possible.

Bill, Ljubljana is a 'hot' destination, but there are plenty of hotels. Try out this site. http://www.ljubljana-tourism.si/index.cgi?body=d01

You can also try www.slovenia-tourism.si (if you haven't already) A new 4 star just opened in Sept. but it is on the ring in/near Tivoli park, not central.

If you are adventurous, some of the gostilnas also have rooms. Gostilnas are traditional Slovene restaurants.

Persevere!

Cheers,
Jan
