Last night in Paris - Montparnesse or near CDG?
We will be arriving by train to Montparnesse from Tours the day before we fly back to the USA. We would like to have one more nice evening in Paris before we depart the next day at 11 AM. Should we stay near the train station and just make our way to CDG the next morning or stay near CDG and either 1) find something to do near CDG or 2) take transportation to and from CDG into Paris for our last evening? Also, can you take the train directly from Tours to CDG?
Thanks for the help.

...there is not a lot to do near CDG. Your flight is at a reasonable time. It would be my inclanation to find a hotel near the St. Michel RER which goes directly to CDG. You would need to leave Paris arould 7:30 (8 at the latest and I think that would be foolish)but I think well worth it. I am not too fond of the Montparnesse area but you could easily get from Montparnesse station to St. Michel by metro on your day of arrival.

I'm pretty sure you'll have more fun in Paris, than at an airport hotel.
Last year we stayed at the Hotel Brea. It's within walking distance of the Montparnasse station, and also the RER station that will take you directly to CDG.
There are several TGVs that take you directly from St Pierre des Corps (Tours), to CDG - but none that will get you there early enough for your flight home.

Montparnasse for sure. One time my husband and I were bumped off our flight home from Paris and Air France put us up at a hotel near CDG. We ended up spending some of Air France's cash to go into Paris for the evening and had a great cold seafood platter at La Coupole in Montparnasse. Would have been even better without the late night commute.

There is the Air France shuttle bus that runs from Montparnasse station to CDG. It starts at 6:30 AM and takes about 1hr.
There are several nice hotels at the airport. Many have shuttle buses to the Terminals and the RER station. I stayed at the Sofitel which is an upscale choice (though I got a great deal on an internet special). In my case I arrived ~10:30 at night and was leaving next day, so no Paris visit.
Staying near the RER station at St Michel or another on that line (like Luxembourg) would give you a quicker trip to the airport with no worries about traffic. The St Michel stop is a partucularly central location, being across the Seine from Notre Dame, and in the hub of the Left Bank.
There have been comments here lately of being at airport 3 hrs before your flight.

Staying near the Luxembourg or Denfert-Rochereau RER is what I would do. Use priceline.com to bid for St-Germain-Montparnasse. Any hotel within this zone will be within a few minutes by Métro of one of those stations.

We face this same choice -- we've opted to stay at the airport and take RER back into Paris for the afternoon and evening before our flight. I'll note that I bid on Priceline for a high-stars hotel in Roissy and will pay under $150 (US) for the night, which is the least we'll pay for just about anything on our trip (and will make up for the train expense back and forth). Just to suggest an option, not that it's best for all.

Anyone going back and forth the same day would do well to buy a one-day Paris Visite card for 6 zones. This one ticket will cover your RER fare to the city and back, plus bus, Métro, RER, train, and tram within the 6 zones. It costs a little more than the RER round-trip alone.
