Lake District and Scotland any suggestions please
Hi again
we will be traveling from Llangollen to Grasmere for a 4 night stay. This is a get away from castles and such part of our trip. We like the idea of going for some site seeing on bikes and a trip on the lake. But would appreciate a bit of guidance here.
We will also be traveling to Stirling for 7 days but on the way I am thinking of stopping at a part of Hadrian's wall. I am also thinking of a day trip traveling to Glencoe, Fort William/Augustus.
thanks for any help
Deb

I am sorry.
While we are in Grasmere for 4 nights would like some suggestions on what to do while there.
On the way to Stirling would like to see a bit of Hadrian's wall but which bit that is not too far off a route?
While we are in Stirling we would love to visit some of the Highlands but not sure what route to take. We have a car and I was thinking of one of the tours but not sure as I don't want to sit on a bus a just pass through places. I realize you cannot do a one day tour and see everything but I have been on some that did not allow any time in any one place.
thanks Deb

I'm just heading out so no time for a full answer. But -- if you'll have a car why would you consider a coach tour? You can get anywhere a tour bus would go -- and wonderful places where tour buses are prohibited - and do it at your own speed . . .
Are you actually staying IN Stirling - or in the general area?

You can also visit several William Wordsworth homes, where he was born in Cockermouth (north) or two different homes and a lovely little museum in Windermere, I think, a major town near a southeast entrance to the Lake District. Please, someone correct me if I've got the wrong town.

OK - Denny is south of Stirling and w/ good road connections in most directions. You'll have easy drives to Edinburgh, Fife, Stirling/the Trossachs, and Loch Lomond/Glasgow. (though I'd probably take the train in to either Glasgow or Edinburgh just so you wouldn't need to deal w/ the traffic/parking etc.)
Just NW are the lovely Trossachs, Inchamhome Priory, Doune Castle and lots of lochs/waterfalls/scenery.
A longer but easy day trip would be up to Glencoe and then back via Killin/Falls of Dochart, and Crieff/Drummond Castle Garden

Hi Janis
you have given me reliable info in the past and I was keen on Glencoe after passing through from Skye on my first trip to the UK in 2004. This is my third but coming from Australia it is so frustrating, need to move over for a few years. But I will keep coming while I am upright. My family came from Vernham's Dean in Hampshire. Thanks again appreciate your help as well as everyone else's.
