Kroller-Muller: from Apeldoorn or Arnhem by public transport

We want to spend three days in this region seeing three main things: a) the Kroller-Muller museum (and park) b) the Open air museum in Arnhem and the Het Loo Palace in Apeldoorn. Where should we base ourselves: Apeldoorn or Arnhem. I am interested on any perspective on the ease of getting around by train and bus from these two centres (and back to Schiphol at the end). Thanks!

You could reach Kroller-Muller from Arnhem and Apoldoorn by bus, but from Arnhem you would have to change bus once near the gate of park to the bus from Apeldoorn. Just ask the bus driver, he will drop you at the right stop.

From the bus stops outside Arnhem train station, there are buses to Open Air museum also.

From Arnhem, every half and hour train to AMS central takes a little more than an hour, from AMS Central very frequent train takes 15 minutes to Schiphol.

You could use the same stripcart for all bus network in The Netherland.

I have visited Kroller-Muller and the park few times, besides the impressive art collection, riding bike along the trails are quite enjoyable too.

Thanks Judy! Can I get a bus from Arnhem to the Paleis Het Loo in Apeldorn, or would I have to take the train to Apeldoorn and then catch a bus? I don't suppose you can recommend any hotels in Arnhem, can you?

You could either take train (change once at Zutphen) or direct bus #43 from Arnhem to Apeldoorn, then take bus from train station to Palace.

I am afraid I have never stayed at Arnhem, I have either travelled from AMS or Den Haag.

Thanks for that. Does anybody else know anything about possible hotels in these towns?

Don't know what kind of hotel you are looking for, but the Bilderberg hotels have several in the area, and they are all nice. Think the website is www.bilderberg.nl
I do think they are mostly out of town, but have a look at the website.

We've stayed in the Bilderberg hotel Klein Zwitserland and liked that a lot; it has an indoor pool, small spa and an excellent restaurant.
I see that there is one in Arnhem, and one in Apeldoorn too.
