No Strasbourg?

The wonderful Musee de l'Ecole de Nancy is closed on Monday & Tues - which is when you'll be there. It will open at 10:30 on Wednesday. We didn't visit the Musee des Beaux Arts, and we though the Musee Historique Lorrain was only OK.

Have breakfast, lunch, or dinner at Brasserie Excelsior Flo in Nancy.

I'm a major wine enthusiast - but I certainly would not go all the way to Europe and spend the amount of time you are allocating to wine/champagne tasting.

I think it looks fine if that's what you want to do, except for the museum closures in Nancy, which I guees you were unaware of. I would never go when the musee de L'ecole de Nancy was closed as that is unique to that city--of course, if you aren't interested in the Art Nouveau movement and its origins, then sure, it doesn't matter. I really like the Musee Lorain (I"m very interested in history) but don't think the Beaux Arts museums is a must-see if you are seeing such museums in other cities, of course. They don't have anything unique that I can recall.

YOu seem to have a lot of time in and around Colmar but if that's what you want to do, seems fine.

Too much time in Colmar (a quite small town) and ignoring Strasbourg - which is a fascinating city - makes little sense to me. We saw Colmar as a day trip from Strasbourg and that was plenty - and even visited a couple of wine villages on the way back to Strasbourg.

As for wine tasting we stopped in Epernay rather than staying in Reims - and how many different houses do you really want to visit?

Epernay is indeed more suited for champagne tasting.

Epernay may be better for tasting (we are not Champagne fans), but we thought Reims was a much more interesting city to visit.

Do both Reims and Epernay - Reims for the cathedral and town center and Epernay forf its bit more prestigious Champagne companies (same ones as in Reims but a better reputation puts Epernay as the effective Capital of Champagne I believe.

Have been to both and all seem similar to me however - Epernay is an ordinary regional town with little else to see.

From here follow the Marne River valley to Paris - much nicer than the autoroute - stop by Chateau Thierry to see one of the largest U.S. Military Memorials in Europe (WW1) - high on a hill overlooking Chateau-Thierry.

Follow the Marne side road thru numberous Champagne villages with small producers offering their wares and mini tours - take it to Melun then the autoroute in Paris.

Just remember that almost all the non-food shops in Nancy will be closed on Sunday. We spent both our Sundays in Nancy this year hanging around the Pl Stanislas, going to museums, and taking the audio guided tour of the Art Nouveau sites in Nancy (get the audio guide at the TI, which I think was open on Sundays). The current Michelin Green Guide has a list of the Art Nouveau sites too.

We also enjoyed Villa Majorelle. It was Patrimonie weekend while we were there - so we were able to go inside the Villa.

We enjoyed strolling around in a neighborhood with lots of interesting architecture. I forgot the name of the neighborhood - it is written in my wife's "notebook" - but she is out shopping now & I don't know where she keeps the book.
