Ideas for Tuscany tour, Please
We are booked to tour the Tuscany area with a guide for two days. We will be starting in Florence and would like to work our way south towards Rome (where our next hotel reservation is).
Our goal is to enjoy the Tuscan scenery, towns, people, restaurants, i.e. “soak up the local color” as Lucy would say. Don’t necessarily want to spend a lot of museum time. Our guide would like us to send him an idea of our “plan”; then he will work out the details.
Any suggestions as to possible destinations would be appreciated.
<b>Day 1</b>
See area/towns between Florence and Siena – but which ones? Spend the night in Siena.
<b>Day 2</b>
See area/towns going south towards Rome – but which ones? And how far south is reasonable in a day? Spend the night where?
<b>Day 3</b>
Head out on our own via bus or train to Rome.

on way to Siena. or take S222, the Chianti road, and explore the towns along the way.
2. Montalcino and Fattoria dei Barbi if you want to do a wine tasting (brunello) and stay for lunch at the Taverna of the farm. One of the best meals we ever had during our two trips to Italy. I'd stay in Orvieto on the way to Rome. It's one of the most incredible old towns in Umbria. Like no setting you can imagine. Mapquest says 75 miles from Siena.

I have a 20+ page itinerary for Italy with a heavy dose of Tuscany. Our closest friends live there in San Quirico - so we've visited many times. Just got back last week. E-mail me at StuDudley & I'll send the itinerary - I've sent it to over 500 people on the aol & Fodor's travl boards.
