Someone posted a website recently giving a breakdown of the cost per litre for all the European countries. I'm sorry I didn't bookmark it.
If you are going to be in Germany, I would recommend requesting a diesel car. The fuel is less expensive than regular gas, and the mileage is much better.

The Euro-fuel price URL is:
http://www.iru.org/Services/Fuel/Welcome.E.html
Diesel fuel is about 10% less the regular gasoline, and diesel cars get about 10% better mileage. Together, 21% cheaper.

This site gives up-to-date pump price for unleaded, super and diesel at virtually every service station in Germany: http://www.clever-tanken.de/ Just enter the postal code (five-figure number) or the German name of a locality, choose the fuel type and click 'suchen' (search). It will be given in euro/litre. To convert into US$/US gallon, multiply by 1.20 (today's exchange rate) and multiply again by 3.785 (US gallon in litres). In Munich today, for example, the 'Normal' (ordinary unleaded) is around 1.25 euro/litre, which equals $5.67, 'Super' (super unleaded) at 1.27 euro ($5.77) and diesel (same name) at 1.10 euro ($5.00).
