How Do You Claim Detaxe When The Store Doesn't Do The Paperwork ?
From previous trips I know that to claim the detaxe you must spend a certain amount in one store on one day, have the paperwork filled out and bring both merchandise and paperwork to the airport with you. One particular shop I was in (hobby and modelling supplies company told me they didn't process detaxe because not many tourists purchased their goods at that high a value; most sales are to French hobbyists and companies. Is it possible to somehow claim the detaxe in a case like this? How would you go about getting the paperwork?

no, the refund comes through the store so if they don't participate, you can't get it. They have to give you the forms (retail export forms) and then the form actually goes back to the store after stamped by customs, and the store refunds your money, as I understand it (I'm sure they then get it from the govt. through some paperwork), but if they don't participate, you can't get it.

As Christina says - you can't. Detaxe and VAT refunds are at the option of the merchant. Some participate, some don't, and some have a minimum amount you must spend before they will offer refunds.

So just enjoy your purchases and forget about about trying to get a refund.

Slightly off the subject, when we left Frankfurt for our flight home to the United States I had all my purchases and forms to apply for tax refund. This was after 2 months in Spain, Portugal and Germany. The tax refund office didn't open until 9:00 AM and our flight left at 8:30 AM. Oh well. But I wished I'd packed my purchases.
