How did you first hear about the Fodors travel forum?
a comment Rex made on another thread made me think of this. My own answer: A doctor of mine hapened to mention that he'd sought and received info from this froum before a brief research trip to Bavaria.

Someone on Rick Steves' ETBD website Grafitti Wall mentioned it. I saw it about a month ago and haven't been back to the Grafitti Wall since.
Overall, the Europe Board Fodorites seem to me to be friendlier, more knowledgeable and WAY more helpful. Also the people who work for ETBD pre-ordain the topics on the their website, then edit or even delete postings unfavorable to Steves and his travel philosophy. There are few specific questions asked and most of those are never answered.
In short, I like it here a whole lot better.
Thank you Green Heron for providing this opportunity to say:
Thank you, Fodors and all you Fodorites.

I had purchased the books in the past and checked them out of the library. Then one day several years ago, I wondered if they had a web site. Found it and have been here ever since, but have only been posting under my real name (Laura) and email address for the last few months.

I was "invited" here by Ben Haines, whose acquaitance I made on the ThornTree forum (Lonelyplanet.com), in November of 1999. within a week or two, I stopped going to ThornTree with any regularity.

I had learned about ThornTree from an article in USA today about a month earlier on internet sites oriented to people seeking others to travel with.

I have now met three people in "real life" from this board: Stacey, from Louisville, who is going on the "fall Fodorites' trip", Sep 19-Oct 3 (we NOW have SEVEN confirmed!! woohoo!!), Cindy, a nurse at one of the hospitals where I work, and (I am embarrassed to say that I have forgotten the name of) another woman who gets her hair cut the same place I do - - small world!!

I look forward to meeting others at a get-together before long - - especially, (perhaps), Ben Haines.

Best wishes,

Rex
I used to use a similar forum on CompuServe back in the early days before unlimited web access. (I think we got 60 free days CompuServe access when we purchased our first home PC in 1988 or thereabouts. I was loyal to them for several years until Erols had a great offer for unlimited access) Having successfully planned Caribbean trips using internet resources, I found this site when planning my 1998 trip to Paris, probably as a result of a web search. Since then I've used the Fodors' Europe, US, Canadian, and Caribbean forums to help plan all our vacations.

I saw a Fodor Web address in a Fodor's ad in Forbes Magazine. As I love to travel, I wanted to see for myself. If any of you are regular Forbes readers (as I am) you will know that Forbes "take on life" is much different than most Fodorites. I have to admit that I disagree with many Fodorites much of the time and wish I could find a travel forum or any other forum that is as "fluid" and easy to access as Fodors.
