I think it was 1997 and I'd been on the internet for almost three years. Was in my quaint neighborhood bookstore looking at Fodors books. Saw the website on the bottom of the front cover and thought I'd try it.

Things moved slow on this site in those days. I'd only check about every other day because there weren't many threads (and they seemed boring). Boy, how times have changed!!
In 1998 as newbies to the internet, we were researching our first trip to Paris. "gee honey, do you think fodor's has a website?" And the rest is history.

Not a clue
I DO know that my first post was in April of 1997 when I asked about airlines that fly to Skopje, Macedonia. {now I can tell you how to find the Skopje airport real time website!]
I probably was "lurking" for a bit before that.

In early 1997, the site was mentioned as a Hot Site on the USAToday website...and I think I've checked it every day since.

One more here that heard of it on the LP site, which in turn I found in a NY Times article on helpful sites on Paris when I was researching for a trip there early last year. First time I checked here, there was a hosted forum on Paris!

When I got my computer (secondhand), Fodors site was installed under Favourites. Had a look, the rest is history.

I've always used the AOL travel boards to research trips, and about 3 mos. ago someone on that board mentioned this one as being helpful and now I scan it daily. My main interest this year is a Scandinavia trip I'm working on for next summer. Thanks for all the info and questions! Judy

In 1997 I was researching for a trip to Germany (business for spouse, vacation for me) and looked up the Fodors.com site. Back them the forum was a different format, but it was still very helpful. I even recalled Lee Simmons, Neal, Wes, Al, BOB from way back then.

the website was written, in small text, on the cover of the Fodors '98 USA guide which I purchased and digested in about 2 weeks. Checked it out sometime in '98.

I can't remember for certain. I do know I found it by just browsing, but I can't remember if it was just before or just after a trip to Switzerland and France four years ago (to the day I believe). Haven't left since, and I think my next trip will be even better as a result.

I found the site listed in the Fodor's guide book to Paris when I was planning a trip about 8 months ago. I couldn't believe all the good information that was available here. I like being able to ask questions and get travel tips from people who've been to different places and I also like copy and save information on places that I plan to visit in the future. In fact, I have become addicted to the site and check it alot. Unfortunately, we decided to cancel our trip to Paris which was scheduled several days after the WTC attack (went to St. Augustine, FL instead. Not as exciting, but it was relaxing) Now, I have lots of information about Paris that I hope to use for a future trip.

Several years ago (two or three) my sweet wife read an article about fodors.com as a place to share info with fellow travel addicts. We have been here every since!
