Help with 23 day Italy itinerary with kids.
Family of 4 (2 adults who have been to Italy before and 2 kids (age 6 and 7) their first time). We are trying to plan our itinerary and wanted some guidance and recommendations. We are renting a car once we leave our first destination Rome. We are looking for a relaxed and scenic road trip adventure. And a route that takes us to family fun locales. Anything with castles, and rustic streets are a plus. Our first stop Rome will be for 2 nights then renting a car and wanting to visit: Tuscan region, Pisa, Venice, and then travel along Adriatic coast (total of 10 days) and to end up in Abruzzo for 7 days, and then visit Sorrento etc. Help needed with where to stop and visit on the initial stretch of our trip, incorporating kid fun places to visit, my kids are 6 and 7. Hotel recommendations are welcome!! Thank you.

A friend of mine stayed at an Aegrotourism farm in Tuscany, they had a pool that her kids loved.
You can make a picnic at Pisa. The square around the leaning tower is a nice place for spreading a blanket for lunch.
There are some beaches at the base of Sorrento and the kids should love playing in the ocean. Pompeii is very interesting, but the kids will probably enjoy the parts off the main tour. You can see the vineyards they are replanting, going to the arena, plus you can drink from the fountains (very different from here).
You might enjoy Montecasino between Rome and Sorrento. It is very interesting and a good place where kids can stretch and look around.

ok, just so you are aware you are going at the high point of the season. So it will be hot and busy, not impossible but you need to get stuff booked asap.
Tuscany has a bunch of places that might interest but the critical issues will be availability and access to pools. As well as staying on trad farms you will also find some pretty nice chalets-on-hillside type places. I'd look at homeaway.co.uk booking.com and selectcamp.co.uk
