Help in Switzerland

We are going to be in Switzerland in June for 3 nights between Paris and Venice. I want to stay in the mountains and my daughter is afraid it will be too boring. After much research, I've narrowed it down to either staying one night in Luzern and 2 in Lauterbraunnen or all three in Lauterbraunnen with a day dedicated to the Junfraujoch ( weather permitting), a day trip to Luzern and the remaining day doing whatever the weather permits leaning toward the Shilthorn trip or cruising the lakes around Interlaken. I'd love any opinions on what you liked best and also on whether you think it would be a feasible trip to Luzern for a day trip from Lauterbrunnen. I love the idea of the place. Would it be too boring considering we'd be gone most of every day? Or, is it not a logical jumping off place to all the things we want to do?
I apppreciate all the advice.

We stayed in Lauterbrunnen for 3 nights in early September, 2003, at the Hotel Silberhorn. It was just magical! We had 4-day Swiss Pass and took the train to Luzern one day when the weather wasn't so nice. The train ride itself was so spectacular, and I think it was just about an hour and a half one way.

We also trained to Grindelwald and Wengen one day, and took several cable car rides. Lauterbrunnen is such an ideal place to stay - unbeatable scenery and so easy to just hop on a train. We literally walked 2 minutes down the hill to the train station from our hotel.
Switzerland was an interlude for us also - between Paris and Lake Como. We felt like 3 nights wasn't nearly enough, and can't wait to return! I can't imagine anyone getting bored there - even a teenager!
If you have any questions, I'd be happy to reply.

Good evening, citray Would suggest you spend your three nights in Luzern
as you have quite a few choices of day trips out of Luzern, Pilatus, Rigi, Titlis and the Lake itself with the villages on its shore. You have the
town of Luzern itself and it does have some nightlife, possibly more than Lauterbrunnen. On he other hand for three nights in Lauterbrunnen, you have numerous things to do in the Berneroberland, towns of Wengen, Murren
and Grindelwald, Grindelwald First, and the Schlithorn along with the Jungfrau...Pick one or the other and save the other for your next trip to CH.

Some of whether you get bored or not will depend on what you consider "fun," and whether you are willing to pay to do certain things in Lauterbrunnen. If you just enjoy hiking and exploring, you'll love it there. If you want to do things besides that, like going up to Jungfrau or parasailing or rent motorbikes, it will cost you, especially in the summer. Lauterbrunnen is awesome! Try to go see the Trummelbach Falls; it is amazing!

We stayed in Lauterbrunnen for 3 nights this summer... It was amazing. My niece is 15 and my daughter 12.. it was the highlight of their trip. We went paragliding one day (expensive - but fun).. a place in Lauterbrunnen arranged it. We spent one day hiking up on the Murren side - and one day on the Wengen side. I guess it depends on how much you enjoy outdoors stuff. If you enjoy hiking and nature and outdoor beauty - it's wonderful. If that isn't your interest - then I'd do something else. Its not a place to go shopping or see wonderful museums.

This is going to sound harsh, but if those beautiful mountains of the Berner Oberland bore your daughter, leave her at home with someone!

The Berner Oberland is spectacular, but unfortunately because of the declining value of the Bush dollar, prices are hitting the upper limits.

The Jungfraujoch is a very expensive trip, even with a discount. The list price from Lauterbrunnen is 150 chf, which multiplies out right now to about $130 round trip.

Other mountain lifts are not cheap either, considering the distance and the duration.

There is more to do in Grindelwald than Lauterbrunnen, but if you spend a day up on the slopes, you will be tired enough that I doubt if you will need much entertainment.

I hope the mountains make their case and offer a lot of appeal. I can cite a parallel case. My 13 year old step grandson fell in love three times this past summer at a lodge in the Canadian Rockies where we stayed 2 nights. I think he has his priorities in the right order:

1st, this blond young lady from Edmonton who was the same age.
2nd, the mountains and the waterfalls
3rd, the chocolate cake that Fran Dummond, who operates Twin Falls Chalet, made for us.

I might add that the lodge has no electricity! Our two grandsons and the young lady from Edmonton had a good time just exchanging ideas and playing.
The older boy also helped carry water, which gave him something useful to do.
Those youngsters have so much energy though that I marvel at them.

My son and daughter-in-law were beat up from the hike they took. The youngsters were still at it after the hike. Fortunately, all 3 of them are good conversationalists and they had lots to talk about.

(My priorities were similar, except my wife of many, many years was a brunette in her younger days. And I am not too old to love mountains and chocolate cake as well.)
