Helen Of Troy: PBS Documentary & Book Release In Oct.
The author (Bettany Hughes who IMO could also play Helen
http://www.womenspeakers.co.uk/uploa...nyhughesws.jpg ) is also hosting this documentary.

From the press release it looks *very good*, an historical documentary plus a travelogue of the areas.
I stayed at that Mycenae hotel mentioned in the article (Belle Helene) where the archaelogist Heinrich Schliemann stayed while excavating Mycenae.
If you want to stay in his room it's #3. It's furnished in furniture from that period. It's a 1*/2*-type hotel so don't expect anything fancy.
I stayed there in Jan '00, I checked-in at 3pm. I was given a key to the front door and the desk clerk *left*. I was the *only* person in the hotel that night. He never even came back the next day, I left ~4pm after spending the day at the site.
That night it was freezing and alittle spooky (I noticed the Full Moon while walking to a restaurant) and there were a couple of 'bumps in the night' .
Of course if I had ran into a ghost of one of the very famous persons who have stayed there it would make a excellent tripreport . But with my luck it would have been Goering, Himmler and Goebbels . Regards, Walter

Bettany Hughes also hosted the excellent documentary "The Spartans" which PBS aired a couple of years ago. She's an engaging speaker.
The Belle Helene makes me think of another documentary, Michael Wood's In Search of the Trojan War, which despite its cheesy moments I like a lot. In the first episode, he stays the night at the Belle Helene and has a superfluous bare chest shot while reclining in bed reading Schliemann's book on Troy.

I meant to top this yesterday morning but I forgot .
The documentary aired last night but I noticed in my area that it will be repeated a few times this week.
So if you are in the US and Canada also I believe and missed it go to www.pbs.org/tvschedules/
Ms Hughes also stays in Schliemann's room at the Belle Helene which is shown in the documentary.
The room looks alot warmer than when I was there . And when I said freezing I meant it, I could see my breath! I doubt it was above 40F (~4C).
Regards, Walter
