I stayed at the Hotel Anlage two years ago. It was very near the heart of old Heidelburg. We were able to walk up the steep hill to see the castle from our hotel. We had a very large room and an up to date bathroom. The style of the hotel was sort of, well, faded elegance. The breakfast (included in the room rate) was all right, but not lavish. Not the freshest rolls in Germany, let's say, but not bad. For the price, which was moderate (around $100 for two, as I recall) it was good. I would stay there again. That's the bottom line.

We ended up in Heidelburg in April without a plan so went to the TI to get help with a hotel. We were sent to the Zum Pfalzgrafen. It is a small B&B type hotel (you are given a front door key to let yourself in after 8PM). Our room was large with a small table and chairs..no view. It was immaculate and the bathroom was nice. It is located about a block off the main street. We paid around $80/nt. The proprietors were very nice and the breakfast was good.
