any information on this area would be appreciated. If you have stayed at Casa al Vento-what should I bring that you feel was missing or is it great or gastly. Thanks for any help.

My husband and I stayed at Castello di Spaltenna in Giaole - I only wish I had the know-how to post our pictures! This was a very special 3 days for us, and we will certainly return. This is a very quiet town, and the inn is wonderful. There is a very nice pool, walking paths, a charming chapel attached and the staff was excellent.

spaltenna is a beautiful inn, with a charming courtyard restaurant, great landscaping with lots of flowers, very historic castle setting. if you go to gaiole, do take a tour and wine tasting at Coltibuono, a thousand-year-old former abbey now owned by a winemaking branch of the medici family. it has a wonderful garden, and there's a good restaurant run by the son of Lorenza de Medici, famous cookbook author and head of a cooking school she runs at the abbey, her home.
