Great Place to Stop Overnight on Route from Dublin to Kinsale
Can anyone recommend a good town to stay in for a night on the route from Dublin to Kinsale? (Something like Kinsale or Kenmare, maybe?) Thanks!

We stayed overnight at Longueville House near Mallow. If I had known what a wonderful room (and long meal) I would have at the end of the day, I would have arrived earlier. We drove from Dublin, toured Glendalough, went over the Wicklow Gap, down through Kilkenny, etc to Mallow.
The room was one of the most nicely decorated I've seen. This was Sept 2001. They had two Jack Russell Terriers and lovely gardens.
The next morning we saw the Blarney Stone before the tour buses and had a relatively easy drive to Kinsale.

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked at the website and though it looks beautiful, 400 euros a night is a bit pricy for this trip. Any recommendations for a nice B & B or guesthouse on the route?

Kate...try visiting the seaport of Cobh (cove)..lots of history as this was the major port for Cork and still is. Mrs. Brown's B and B is quite nice with good views over the picturesque harbor..and a litte more expensive is Aherne's...plenty of cafes in town..short drive to Kinsale the next day....Cobh is much smaller than Cork.

Cashel may not be a bad place to stop. Have a tour of the rock of Cashel and enjot a night of Irish music in the pub.

How about Kilkenny? Does this description from the Lonely Planet Ireland guidebook sound appealing?
"Kilkenny has, shall we say, aged gracefully. It rates among Ireland's most elegant cities. Although much of Kilkenny's architectural charm owes a huge debt to the Middle Ages, when the city was a powerful seat of political power, modern Kilkenny is a vibrant cultural centre, renowned throughout Ireland for its devotion to the arts. Its cobbled pedestrian passageways and old-fashioned shop fronts may look like the way to mysterious, time-warped quarters, but in reality they lead to hip bars, fashion boutiques and chic restaurants. Presiding over the town is a splendid medieval cathedral. The town's other 'must-see' is the mighty castle."
