Globus tours?

Hi, has anyone taken a Globus tour and what did you think of the service they provided?
Did you have a nice mix of ages on your tour? I only ask this because I'm 35 and have been on Tauck tours and they always had a nice mix of people. I know Globus isnt Tauck or Travcoa, but some of their prices seem hard to pass up. One example is Egypt.
They end up staying at the same hotels as Tauck on that one.

Yes, I took the tour over 20 yrs. ago when I had finished high school. I realize it's a long time ago, but it's probably generally the same thing as now. It depends on who signed up to take the same tour at the same time you do. I had a mix of young and old people on the tour.

Hotels were not central nor 3 star category. For example, in Paris we stayed at the Novotel Hotel near the airport. Our group had only one day there and at night we were stuck at the hotel. It wasn't as if we could spend our final night walking around as we could have if we were in the city proper. All the other hotels we stayed at in the other cities were not central nor charming either.

Hopefully nowadays the hotels have improved.

I have to agree with xxx, I took a globus tour about 3 years ago, everybody was around their 60 years old, sooooo...just imagine the lines to go to the bathroom?, depressing, and the hotels yes they are very far away from the city center (do you wan't to know why?), very simple it is cheaper, so you are stuck ...and very important, you have to get up very early because we leave before 7.00a.m.everyday and come back about 5.00 p.m., it was my worst experience with a tour, choose something else or you will be sorry, my sincere opinion.

Hi,
I took their budget version, Cosmos. Our group was mostly under 50 with a lot of 30's. When we ran into the Globus group at lunch stops, etc. I noticed most were over 50 or 60.
Our hotel locations were good. If we weren't central, the first thing the tour director would do was point out public transport. I think Cosmos must have changed over the years and now they are catering to people who want to travel with a group, but do a lot on their own too. "Factory stops" were very minimal on my 3 tours and optionals weren't pushed hard at all. Coffee and a hard roll breakfasts were very rare.
I've only done the single country tours. I think most of the complaints come from the "8 countries in 12 days" type of tours. They must have to stay out on the highways so they can cover the long distances.

I don't think Cosmos does Egypt. I did a 10 day Globus tour there 7 years ago. It was a good tour, but very busy. I'm pretty sure I saw the same sights as the more expensive tours.

I took a two-week Globus tour in France two years ago. It was a wonderful trip, one of my best. I don't recall ever leaving in the mornings before 8:00. You had to have your suitcase ready and outside your door around 7:00 but then you had breakfast and went from there.

I like fast-paced travel, seeing as much as possible in the time allowed. An escorted tour is good for this.

As far as typical age group, I found about half to be 60 or older and maybe 20% in the 30-40 year old range, 5-10% 20-30 years. The other 25% in the 40-50 year old range. I was 29 at the time of my tour and found myself enjoying the company of several different people, regardless of their ages.

Most of the hotels were very nice. In Paris, a metro was a 5-10 minute walk away. In Nice, the beach was in sight and a 3-minute walk at the most. In Lyon, I remember walking about 10 minutes to a central location. In Blois the hotel was probably the nicest of all, but still about a 10-minute walk to the river area. Evening meals that were included in the tour were okay, but not spectacular. Breakfasts were good. The optional tours were good, especially the ones for special dinners. My favorite was an evening in Monte Carlo. A close second favorite was the last night of the trip, a Seine river cruise and dinner.

I had an exceptional tour director and motorcoach driver on my tour.... both made the trip special in my mind. If you aren't so lucky in this department I expect it may make a difference in your enjoyment of the trip.

Good luck with Globus if you choose them. And if you get a nice red-haired lady named Susan who lives near Genoa, Italy as your tour director, consider yourself very lucky!

Took one Globus Tour. Hotels were not centrally located. There were too many stops at shops catering to bus tours. The age mix was good on our tour. High pressure sales pitch to take the optionals. My husband & I did a lot on our own-while the group was in a"preferred shop" we wandered off and did or saw something on oir own. Before too long we were like the Pied Piper-had others going with us and asking to join in out adventures. We led a group of them from the hotels on the outskirts in to towns on public transportation. It ended up that we all had fun but no thanks to our guide. He was uncooperative...had his own agenda. In one town he had an appointment with his dentist and in another he met one of his children.
