glasgow prestwick airport late at night

I'm a female student traveling alone to Glasgow this weekend. I have just discovered that the last train leaves the airport at apporoximately the same time as my flight arrives. I'm planning to take the late night bus to Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station, but I'm a little worried about the whole thing. (Right now I'm living in Paris and I've had some troubles with creepy people when I've been alone late at night, so now I'm really nevrous about being in a place that I'm unfamilar with late at night.) The bus arrives to the station at a little before one. Does anyone know how safe the station is (particularly at night)? Is it easy to get taxis? Does anyone know another cheap, easy way to get from the Glawgow-Preswick airport late at night? Should I just give in and pay for a taxi from the airport? How much would this cost?
Thanks for you help!

unforgettablegab,

I don't know how much a taxi from Prestwick to Glasgow would cost but I think it would be pretty expensive as it is a fair distance from Glasgow (32 miles according to the airport's website). I can't think of another way of getting to Glasgow other than the late night bus you have mentioned.

I appreciate your concerns about arriving in a strange city late at night but I think you should be OK. The Bus Station is modern & well lit & there is a taxi rank right next to it.

If memory serves me right your bus from Prestwick will come in at the far end of the station i.e. at the opposite end from the main terminal building. As you walk down towards the terminal building I think the taxi rank is on the right hand side just before you reach the building itself. I'm not clear exactly which weekend you will be travelling on but, just in case, I will double check this information next week & re-post to confirm.

There is a lot going on in Glasgow at night & so I would expect there will be people about - even at 1 in the morning. In fact, if you are there at the weekend the place is likely to be pretty busy.

Hope this helps & as I say I will re-post next week to confirm the exact locations of your particular bus stance in relation to the taxi rank.

Jim

Sorry, unforgettablegab, I took your question to mean how safe the Bus Station was & how easy it was to get a taxi from there.

On re-reading the title, however, I am now wondering if your question actually referred to the airport? Can you confirm which of the two you meant?

Also, where will you be heading to once you get to Glasgow as this might make a difference?

Where are you going in Glasgow? Are friends picking you up or are you staying in a city center hotel? A taxi from Prestwick really isn't an option since it is not in Glasgow but on the ayrshire coast more than 35 miles from the city.

If I was arriving at Prestwick that late at night I would just stay in a hotel at the airport and go into Glasgow the next morning.

Buchanan Bus Station is perfectly safe at night during the week. It gets a bit dodgy on Friday or Saturday nights due to the drunken people walking around. I spent about 4 and a half hours in the wee hours of the morning at the station one Thursday night, waiting for the bus to the airport and I didn't have any troubles at all.

Its quite easy to get a taxi as there's a taxi rank there.

Don't catch a taxi from the airport, it's a 45 minute trip into town and would cost a fortune.

Thanks for all your help! It was very nice of you to take the time to help me out. I was, by the way, refering to the bus station and not the airport. I'm staying in with a friend in her apartement in the middle of Glasgow.
