Girl from US needs advice with day trips to Landshut or Nuremburg
I am from the US and traveling to Regensburg Germany for a third time next week and love to take day trips while my husband works. I have been to Munich & Passau which I love but was thinking of Landshut or Nuremberg . I am comfortale with the train but prefer to walk once I get to the town & explore. Is this possible in these two cities to see things without getting additional transportation?

Landshut is a gem which hardly anyone seems to know about. I highly recommend it, and here is why: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/f86bd/a997/
You could walk into town from the station but taking the bus will save you some precious time. If you travel on a Bayern-Ticket, the city bus is included. The transportation tip in my Landshut page has the details about the buses.

The main rail station in Nurnberg is across the street from the "old city" walls and there is plenty to see within walking distance of the train station. Nurnberg also has an excellent and easy to understand public transport system and the trams alone go to a lot of locations.

We enjoyed Landshut as well. It is very pleasant place to walk about. Our pictures:

Having lived in Nürnberg all I can say is Nürnberg. The back streets of the old city are wonderful. From there, assuming you enjoy walking, it is not a bad stroll to the Nazi Parade grounds, which are suitably left decaying. The people can be friendly, with just a few exceptions.
Landshut is enjoyable and has a strong claim on your time, but Nürnberg is a must visit for centuries of history and charm.

Landshut's old town is originally preserved with authentic historical houses while most of Nürnberg's old town is a post-war reconstruction with houses that clearly show their origin in the 1950s, at least to those who know a bit about architecture.
Both destinations are surely worthwhile and a decision for only one would be hard. Jackie, I hope you get two days off so you can visit both places? ;-)
