The Amalfi Coast drive is very scenic, but you can get tied up in horrible traffic depending on the season. Late Fall shouldn't be nearly as bad as July/August, but you never know. That's why some people opt for the boat service between towns.

We took a boat from Positano to Amalfi, but when the weather got rough, they stopped the boat services. We spent a couple of hours trying to get a bus back in the afternoon, but the crowds were too big and the busses already filled. We finally caught one and stood up jammed like sardines for the ride. I would never count on public transportation if you have a deadline to get back to your ship. Doesn't the ship offer a trip? If so, I think that's your best bet as then you only have to rely on them getting you back.

Please consider Patrick's advice. We were there in late October (after ferry service had ended for the season), and the buses were packed. If we had been on a schedule, I would have been very nervous.

Hi DMG,
A previous poster has reported 40-45E for Sorrento to Positano. The price should be about the same for Amalfi/Positano.
You might want to consider a private limo for that price. We will be using Cuomo Renato for our trip to the AC. www.cuomonet.it
