From CDG airport to TGV station...

Is 3 hours enough to get through customs at Paris CDG airport and then to get to the Montparnasse TGV station? Thanks.

Probably if you take a cab. Can you take the TGV from CDG to whatever your destination is?

Supposedly we have to go to the Montparnasse station to go to Bordeaux. We will be taking a cab from CDG to the train station.

Barring something unusual (and your plane lands on time), that should be no problem.

I wouldn't take a cab to Montparnasse, the Air France bus goes directly there for only about 12 euro flat rate for adults, that makes more sense. You are going to be on the roads anyway. If you have a lot of people that makes the AF bus in total more expensive than a cab, that's different, of course (but for two, I'd take the AF bus).

Lots of factors to consider, especially time of day (and day of week), the amount of luggage you'll have, and the number of people traveling.

If you have carry-on only, if your flight is on-time, and if it's non-rush hour, you can take the Air France bus directly from CDG to Montparnasse station. The bus trip will take about 45 minutes, and the bus leaves every 30 minutes. The bus costs 12E per person.

A taxi is faster than the bus, and will cost about 40-50E. If it's rush hour, a taxi could take anywhere from 1-2 hours.

At rush hour, the fastest travel is probably by RER. I would take the RER to Denfert-Rocherau, then a taxi to Montparnasse. About 8Epp for the RER, and another 6 or 8E for the taxi.

We are arriving to CDG at 9:10 on a Sat morning. There are 3 adults, 2 kids, but we will be 5 adults going to the train station as my parents will have arrived 2 hrs before us. I do think a cab might be the best but if you think otherwise let me know. Thanks.

This web site shows a TGV leaving CDG (use Roissy as your departure) for Bordeaux on Saturday afternoons.

AEROPORT CDG 2 TGV 13h44
BORDEAUX ST JEAN 18h00

It will be a long layover if you're early. If your flight is delayed and you have a wait at passport control, the layover isn't bad.

Now you have to decide. Do you want to schlep lots of luggage and people into Montparnasse to hopefully catch an earlier train? Or do you want to hang at CDG with your wait?

With a light load I prefer to keep moving and go to the train station. The more people and luggage the more I'd lean towards the (boring) airport wait.

For some reason, the place we booked our train tickets through couldn't get us on the 13:44 train. So we are on the 12:15 train. Thank you sooo much for going through all the trouble of looking it up. Last time we went through customs in Paris it took about 2 hrs so I was a little concerned about if the plane is delayed and we have a long customs line. I have no idea what it is like getting from CDG to Montparnasse train station on a sat morning. Also, we could never get past the second screen on the tgv website.

yeah, it probably would have made sense to just stay out there for an extra hour.

So you have five adults and two kids? YOu might want to find one of those private shuttle vans as you can take up the whole van. That is going to be expensive to get to Montparnasse for that many. You would need two cabs, so that may be about 100 euro.

By AF bus, there are group and children discounts. Children under 2 are free, 2-11 are 50 pct and 15 pct discount for groups of 4+. So, if the kids are all 2 and over, that would be .85*5*12)+(2*6)]=61.2 euro. That is a flat rate so you won't need to worry about traffic holdups, and you will all be together. I would choose that option if you can't arrange a shuttle. I don't know why Rizzuto says it is only appropriate if you have hand luggage. I have never had only hand luggage when taking it, they have a big luggage hold under the bus that they put your bags into. There is no extra charge for luggage. A taxi would be a little faster because that bus has one stop before Montparnasse (at Gare de Lyon). That does take some time to let people off and take their luggage out.

Of course, public transportation RER/metro would be the cheapest with that crowd but I'd lean towards the AF bus. I've never had customs take any time at all in Paris. In fact, I've never even noticed customs upon arrival in Paris, although immigration can take some time (I've never spent longer than 30 minutes there, but I know anything can happen).

I wonder if the 1:44 train was fully booked or just your agent couldn't figure out the website or something?

Taking the Air France bus, you simply walk out of the terminal to the ticket office, and when the bus arrives they stow your luggage underneath.

Good thought, Bruno.

23E each way for a RT ticket.

133E for one way.

Interestingly, if you buy the plane tickets from AF in the US, they want $95 for the RT.

>>Even w/ 5 adults & 2 kids & lots of luggage?>>

yes, I think several of us have voted that way, if it were us. What exactly is your issue with the 5 adults,2 kids and luggage in reference to the AF bus? I tried to spell out in detail the arithmetic as well as the issues involved (re luggage), so what is the question you have. Now if lots of luggage means 15-20 large pieces, sure, that might not work, but you are going to have real problems with a taxi in that regard, also. YOu will have to walk a little bit from the bus dropoff point to the actual TGV station, of course.

I actually enjoy riding the AF bus into the city more than taking a taxi, I find it a more comfortable and enjoyable ride. A taxi is a little more convenient and quicker, of course.

It's up to you, if you want to pay for two taxis, that's a perfectly fine way to go and should cause no problems and it will be more convenient as you'll go right to the point you want. That is definitely the "nicest" way to go and easiest and no major problems except a possible higher fare. If you do not get out of the airport for a long time (due to immigration), then I really can see why you'd do that to save a little time. I also thought you might find it a little nice to all be together so there is no chance of separation.

It's just hard to give advice on here as some people think spending an extra 40 euro or so for a trip like this isn't important whereas other folks go on and on about what to do to save a couple euro on a metro ticket or soemthing.
