French Riviera vs Amalfi Coast
#2
What time of year? Where would you be coming from in either case? How old are you? What do you hope to see/do in either place?
My default answer is almost always Italy, but I'm biased that way. I might answer differently if I knew more about you, your interests and the rest of your travel plans (or options).

IMHO French Riviera has much more to see and do - including a large city (Nice) with a plethora of sights, small beach towns, quaint town up in the hills behind the coast, a a number of fascinating museums and Monte Carlo if you want to spend big $ and watch the uber rich at play and pretending to be in a James Bond movie.
The Amalfi coast does some things very well (Capri, Pompeii and a ferry down the coast) as well as some cute small towns on the coast. But in July and August getting around is painful (VERY slow and crowded buses on the coast road). The time to do Amalfi is May or early June - or Sept. Riviera you can do any time from Apr to Oct - and while it is very crowded during film festival and fairly so in summer - there are a number of different routes and directions - so you don;t spend hours sitting on a bus doing 5 mph - or waiting for one empty enough for you to get on.

I also agree that it depends on the time of year you are traveling. Been to both places 3 times and enjoy both. My recommendation would be Amallfie if it's June to Mid September timing, otherwise I would do Nice and the French Riviera.
