Frankfurt airport>>Cologne by train

Hello! it's my first visit to Germany! Please, help me 1) how to get to train station from 2-terminal? 2) Our plane arrives at 5:40 pm, should I be able to catch an 7 pm train for Cologne with that arrival time? 3) Which one is the best choice: to buy tickets at the airport train station or online?
thanks in advance!

Here's a link to the terminal maps; you can walk to the airport rail station

http://www.frankfurt-airport.com/con...minal_1_2.html

Fastest timing to Cologne is around 57 minutes

You can check schedules and buy tickets at www.bahn.de click on the English version

use Fankfurt Flughafen Fernbh as your departure point on the Bahn.de site

It's so easy. Follow the baggage claim signs and then the signs for the train. Trains are on the lower levels so just keep taking the escalators down.

BTW - this post is asking for information; it's not a trip report.

From terminal 2, you need to either take the Sky Train, which is a free monorail that runs every 3 min. to terminal 1 or take the bus. This is not really a walk between terminals kind of place.

You need to decide if you are taking a fast, ICE train, which will leave from the long distance train station, located under the Squaire, or a slower, regional train that will leave from the Regional train station, track 3, under terminal 1.

"best" requires objectives statement.

Best "price": last minutes 69EU, advance purchase 19EU per www.bahn.com
Best "flexibility": That advance purchase comes with this restriction:

Specific train booking, i.e. your ticket is valid only in the trains indicated on your ticket. This offer cannot be combined with a BahnCard 50 discount. Exchange/refund, EUR 15; not permitted on or after the 1st day of validity.

IMO the poster has received GENEROUS help and now needs to do some research on their own.

Glad to see this thread -- am doing same trip.

Arrive 7:15 a.m. from the US, carry-on only.

Trains at 9 and around 9:30 to Cologne.

Would you purchase a ticket in advance for one of these or just purchase when you get there?

If you don't go for a discounted ticket, the standard tickets are valid for the whole day for that connection, so no problem to buy in advance. If you miss the train, you can just take the next one.

But you can also easily buy it at the train station, either at one of the vending machines or in the ticket office. For a 5 Euro surcharge, you can even buy it in the train, either with cash or credit card (this is possible in all long-distance trains but not the regional trains).

Personally I'd go to the ticket office. If there's any trouble with the connection or whatever, they can inform you and you can be sure to get the correct ticket for the most convenient train.

Many thanks, Hans! I was just on Bahn.de and am glad I checked back here.

I will buy it at the ticket office. Then no heartburn over time/connections.
