France - Provence/Cote Du Rhone Wine Trip

Does anyone have a list of wineries that are "Walk-in"s? Going in September. I've briefly been before and noticed a lot were by appointment.

In the town of Chateauneuf du Pape, there are many places where you can taste - but the actual wineries are elsewhere.

Dégustations? Yes, pretty prevalent. But just walk-ins anywhere in France - not so much. September is also busy season, the beginning of the vendange, so they're not going to want to entertain you while they're getting ready for the harvest.

What is your objective? Pick grapes? Taste and spit? Buy wine? Take photos?

I suggest that you search for wine festivals. They are great, and low cost.

Taste and spit, maybe buy. Thanks for the suggestions.

I have some bottles of le 'chateau de la Janasse' in my cellar. And I just discovered their Viognier (white) at the last GTG, it was just great !

The other favorite côtes du rhône sleeping in my cellar are

- Beaume de Venise : Fenouillet (been there since 10 years)

- domaine des girasols (found a not yet empty bottle of rosé in my fridge yesterday) - one of the owner is US citizen but the wine is still good !

Otherwise, just buy the guide Michelin for wines and select one that you think you like... cannot be much wrong in the region.
