Hi Fodorites. I am from way down under in New Zealand and am taking my 8 yr old daughter with me to France and Italy next April. We have 2 weeks to spend there. We would like to visit 3 areas in each country. What would you recommend seeing and doing and what would be the best form of transport?

Six days France, eight days Italy.

In France, four nights in Paris; two nights at www.chateaudejonvilliers.com and explore Chartres, and/or Versailles and/or one or more of the Loire valley chateau by rental car.

Fly www.volareweb.com from Paris to Venice or Rome. Allocate at least three nights to your first choice city (Rome, Florence or Venice); then add a mnimum of two nights each in two of these five: Rome, Florence, Venice, Verona or Siena. Do it all by train (unless you choose Siena, then travel there by bus from Florence).

It will take a goodly amount of reading to determine what destinations you truly want to make your itinerary your own. You need the biggest picture-filled book (one for each country) you can find at your largest public library or bookstore - - tackle each one, cover to cover, as you would read a novel.
