For those who wondered about Rick Steves being in London

I just received this e-mail after checking their website for Rick's whereabouts and seeing nothing. I e-mailed and asked if he really was in London (since someone on the other thread mentioned he might be), and whether they'd heard if he was OK.

"Dear Julie,

Thanks very much for your concern about Rick Steves' safety.

Rick left London before the bombings occurred, and is currently in the Cotswold Hills region, about 2½ hours west of the city.

Our London tour members are safe as well, and will continue with their itinerary tomorrow.

Rick's son, Andy, is traveling in southern France.

For further updates, please check our website at http://www.ricksteves.com after 5:00pm Pacific Time today.

Our thoughts are with the fine people of London.

~The Staff at Rick Steves' Europe Through the Back Door"

Probably sounds cold - but w/ all the tragedies in London, the where abouts of Rick Steves would be about the last thing on my mind.

Glad he is fine - but my thoughts are w/ the folks in London.

Janis, it's not cold...I just read on the big fat London thread that Rick Steves was in London. I e-mailed his people off his website since I didn't see anything posted about his whereabouts, and I got a response.

While some may not care about him, I enjoy his work, he's from my hometown, and would care about his well-being about as much as any other "celebrity" that I liked. Since I got a response and he's mentioned so much on this board due to his work in travel, I just thought I'd share.

PalQ...Rick Steves is one of the leading travel book writers with his Europe Through The Back Door series. If you've been to a bookstore and wandered into the travel section, I'm sure you've seen his books.

Jules

Thanks for your post. I was wondering, too, since his e-newsletter arrived today saying he was in London. I enjoy his writing as well. I'll take a peek at the site later today to see what's posted. Thanks again.

jules4je7, thanks for your e-mail to
Rick Steves website. Many ETBD's had
inquired about him and his tour members
but there was no update. I popped over here, found your post, and posted a brief edit of the staff's reply to your e-mail, to the traveler's helpline.

I also enjoy his work. He covers the basics so well. His approach to travel helps those who otherwise would never consider it, realize that they can do it!
At the same time, I enjoy Fodor's forum and books for a more in depth, detailed experience from seasoned travelers. A good trip planner will use many resources. Thanks again,
Di
