This is very sad indeed. We stayed in that apartment for two weeks in December. It was well-equipped and perfectly comfortable. "Tuffaut" was a very good landlord, too. I hope he can salvage something from it and get re-established.

This is a link to the page on Our Paris Forum: http://www.ourparisforum.com/index.c...ay&thread=3750

I stayed in that apartment last year. It is owned by two Americans and according to the information one of them posted on the link above, the apartment is a total loss. A fireman and a policeman and ten other people were injured. Thankfully there was no loss of life, although it looks as though the fire was caused by a violent explosion, apparently of a motorcycle that then set other motorcycles on fire.

My memory is that there was a storefront or two on the ground floor, no apartments there, and that must have been where the explosion was most direct.

Thank you, everyone, for your concern. We are, indeed, rebuilding, but expect it to take at least 18 months, and more likely 2 years. We'll let you know when we have our "Grand Re-Opening".

Truffaut - how very shocking. We are glad to hear you are safe, but can barely imagine how you must feel. I am glad to hear you will assume the challenges of rebuilding. Our thoughts go to those who were injured and to wish them a speedy and complete recovery.

Iregeo, according to Truffaut's post there were twelve injuries- a fireman, a policeman, and ten others. Nobody was killed, which seems a miracle considering the fire was caused by an explosion in the middle of the night. The people who were staying in the rental apartment got out without injuries.
