flamingo in spain
My husband wants to see Flamingo dancing in Barcelona, I say there are only tourist shows and not just a bar you happen to come upon.
any suggestions on a show without dinner and more to the local side.
we are there on a friday, saturday and sunday night

hi duchess,
firstly, you might get a few more answers if you repost your question using "flamenco".
secondly, we went to a concert at the palau da musica which featured flamenco and opera, and there is a club in the poble espanyol which called the tablau di carmen, who was apparently a very famous flamenco dancer. we didn't come across the sort of bar your husband is talking about but they may exist.
thirdly, if you search this forum, you'll find a thread about learning about spain through her music which takes a lot about flamenco.
good luck with your trip,
regards, ann

hi duchess
Tarantos on Placa Reial is bar offering short traditional flamenco shows, usually lasting only 45 minutes but is well worth it. Dinner is not included.

Do a search for the bar on youtube.com as I know they have some performances filmed by folks in the (small) audience.

Sara Baras, the world's most famous female flamenco dancer, is dancing "Carmen" in Teatro Coliseo in Barcelona until November 1st. She premiered this performance in Barcelona two years ago, and it seems as if she now is ending the world tour where she started it. Here's a list of major up-coming flamenco events in the city: http://www.deflamenco.com/agenda/index.jsp?barrio=4
Both Tarantos in the Pl. Reial and Tablao de Carmen could be well worth visiting. The latter was established in the 1980's in tribute to Carmen Amaya (1913-1963), arguably the best flamenco dancer of all times, on the place where she made her debut in 1929 in front of King Alfonso XIII.

More unpredictable, in the flamenco bar Soniquete in Carrer de Milans 5 (in Barri Gòtic), anything can happen (Fridays and Saturdays to 3pm).
