Edinburgh in August?
#2
As has been mentioned on you other thread - Edinburgh doubles in population from late July til the end of August . . . And nearly triples in size on weekends during that period. How much any particular hotel, B&B or apartment increases their rates is up to them. But August and New Years weekend (Hogmanay) are the most expensive ti es to visit Edinburgh.

If you are planning to visit during the Military Tattoo and Fringe festivals, and want to stay IN the city better book yesterday. We stayed in a B&B just outside the city during the festivals and Tattoo and took 10 minute bus ride in each day. Very easy.

A few minutes spent online checking the prices of various hotels, B&Bs or whatever would answer that question for you Tigermom.
The only place for which it even matters is the place you want to book. Or does it really matter? If you are trying to decide whether to go in August or July then it would matter. If you have decided to go in August then it doesn't matter at all. What is, is.

I was there for that and really enjoyed it. It was really cool. It was during the Fringe Festival, also, which I really liked and saw or heard several performances. In short, it was a great time to be there for those special events. If you don't care about either one of them, it probably would make sense to go a different time. I stayed on the outskirts but it was an easy bu ride into town.
