dubrovnik to hvar town- what is the easiest or fastest way to go?
i know this question continually arises on this board, but i can't get a handle on the answer. one way seems to be a bus to split and a cat to hvar town. a second way is a ferry from dubrovnik to somewhere on hvar. can anyone tell us which way is recommended for minimum time or maximum ease? how long will it take?

Well, if you ferry, it is a 7 hour journey with a stop over in Korkula. See http://www.jadrolinija.hr/default.aspx?dpid=1304
to look up your dates and schedule. It looks like it goes Monday, Wednesday, and Sundays at 9:00 and arrives in Stari Grad, Hvar at 16:15.
This is probably more direct than buying a bus ticket, transfering in Split and then buying another ticket. But there are daily busses from Dubrovnik to Split, and many ferries and cats daily leaving for Hvar Town or Stari Graid from Split.
But if you need to leave on a different day of the week, or would prefer Havr Town arrival to Stari Grad, then Split route might be better.
As for prices, its only 2 euros more for the ferry from Dub - Stari thn it is Split - Stari so its more economical to take Dub - Stari ferry.

It's kind of hard to find a bus website in English for Dubrovnik.
Heres' an example of bus lines and times from dubrovnik to split:
http://www.ak-split.hr/EN/vozni.red/...dDolazaka.aspx
looks like about 4.5 hours.
As for ferrys to Hvar - do you want Havr Town or stari Grad, and when?
To Havr in low season lokos like one or two daily to Havr Town around 14:00 or 15:00. Catarmas are 50 minutes while ferrys are 1 hour and 45 minutes.

To Stari Grad it is same time, but much more frequent trips daily (looks like 3 or 4 a day)

I don't know which month youre travelling, but you can look up exact dates on these websites.
