We will fly into Dublin and spend a couple of days exploring the city before we venture elsewhere. Can anyone recommend lodging convenient to the city yet not directly in the center of a noisy bustling area? A 5-10 minute walk into town is fine. We hope to pay under $200 USD per night for 2 people in a room.

I was very pleased with the location of the St Stephen's Green Hotel.

Friends have stayed at Buswells, which is more central, but they were very pleased with it, and loved the breakfasts!

The Mt. Herbert Hotel in Ballsbridge may fit your requirements. It is in a lovely residential section and is one block from the DART light rail. It is a five minute ride at most to Dublin proper, but there are well-rated restaurants walking distance from the hotel. (They also have a pub and restaurant.)It is a three star and has a wide variety of rooms and pricings. The staff was very helpful. There are several other nice hotels in the Ballsbridge area. Good luck.

We favor Staunton's-on-the-Green...a very nice Georgian building opened in 1993, directly across the road from the Green and Grafton St. (the busy pedestrian street). Rates are up to 165E's , bkfst. included.

We were in Dublin last week and stayed at Bewleys Ballbridge - every room is 109 Euro. I heard about it on the TV show Passport to Europe. The hotel is beautiful and a one block walk to the dart. We did walk to Temple Bar one night, but it was pretty far. I highly recommend it.

I usually stay at Abberley House, http://www.abberleyhouse.ie/, which is in a quiet area not too far from City Centre and the Temple Bar District. Its a very nice Victorian era B&B. I would say it is about a mile from either. It as a pleasant 10 minute walk at most. It is very affordable, a rarity in Dublin, under $100 a night for two people and if you are booking for three or more days, during the week (Sun-Thurs), they offer a discounted rate.

I have never had a bad experience staying there. The breakfast is delicious and more than filling. The beds are quite comfortable and the bathrooms are ensuite, which is a plus.

We are just back from Dublin and stayed in a wonderful B&B called Azealea Lodge (http://www.azalealodge.com/). Bernadette and Padraig were wonderful. The room was under 100 euros for 2 people. There is a bus stop across the street and a store to buy bus passes there as well. It was truly the best place we stayed (hotel or B&B) on our trip in Ireland.

We stayed in a B&B in Drumcondra, an area of Dublin between the city and the airport. Worked very well for us. We were right on a bus line into the city centre.

The name of the B&B was Willow House. The web site is www.willowhousedublin.com Our room was large and comfortable. With breakfast it would've been €40 per person. However, we had to leave before breakfast was served to get to the airport in time for my flight. So, unfortunately, I can't tell you how the breakfasts are!

I also recommend Bewley's Ballsbridge. We stayed there a few years ago. Our room was clean and large, if a little plain, and there was a lovely big lounge downstairs where you could have breakfast in the morning. Also, quite a nice restaurant. We took the bus into the centre of town but we often walked it as well.

I can second the Stauntons on the Green recommendation. We stayed there a number of years ago and found the staff lovely and the room comfy and the location was just right.

However, for the same price and more luxury, if you want to stay further out and take the bus in, stay at Clontarf Castle.
