Driving from Venice to Rome

Hi, Planning on flying into Venice, then driving to Florence, Senigallia (Ancona)and to Rome. Any special hints on this route?
Will drop off car in Rome and use feet & taxis in Rome & to airport home.
Thanks

Are you actually staying in Florence? for more than 24 hours? Might scarcely be worth getting the car until you are ready to leave Florence, if you're just going to drive it three hours, and then pay to park it (you won't really benefit from using it while you're IN Florence). For the balance of your trip, make sure and take a look at viamichelin.com or mappy.com or both.

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi Rex

We are working on the itinery now. Thought we would start at Venice, taking an older sister who has some problems walking long distances. Wife wants to "see" Florence, thought we would stay the night there, then on to Senigallia for 2 days to do some geanology research on family, then drive to Rome for the last few days. Between the 3 of us we will probably have 6 pieces ofluggage and I hate the idea of hauling around on trains etc, thus the car - more flexibility.

You will need a large car.

Having a car in Florence is great for doing day trips - so you're not tied to bus schedules. Also- you can stop and see something else on way from Venice to Florence - Verona or ? We just had our hotel aim us at the best garage - only a couple of blocks away and quite reasonable - I think like $25 per night.

If by 6 peices of luggage you mean 3 full suitcases and 3 carry-ons - you will need to get the largerst car you can to fit it in. European mid-size cars will hold 2 medium suitcases or one large one plus assorted smaller stuff.
